The Classical Images of Vietnam

This journey is designed for photographers, travel bloggers, and experiential travelers who want to capture Vietnam’s most iconic and timeless imagery. Traveling through the country’s classic destinations, the route highlights landscapes, cultural scenes, and everyday moments that have shaped Vietnam’s visual identity.

Blending guided photography sessions with immersive travel experiences, the journey offers opportunities to photograph traditional life, historic settings, and scenic backdrops while refining composition and storytelling skills. It is ideal for those seeking to build a strong, well-rounded portfolio that reflects the enduring beauty and cultural depth of Vietnam.

  • Upon arrival at Noi Bai (Hanoi) Airport, you’ll be met by our guide and driver and transferred to your hotel to drop off luggage and rest (some guests may arrive a day earlier to acclimate). In the afternoon, we’ll gather for a brief welcome meeting, followed by a delicious Vietnamese welcome dinner in the evening.

  • Enjoy a complimentary breakfast at the hotel before spending the morning exploring Hanoi—wandering through the charm of the Old Quarter, discovering hidden cafés and bars, and sampling local cuisine. We also visit a traditional handicraft village, where you’ll have the chance to photograph locals drying vividly colored incense sticks and capture authentic cultural scenes.

In the afternoon, we travel to Ninh Binh, often called “Ha Long Bay among the rice paddies,” where dramatic limestone formations rise above lush green fields.

  • After breakfast at the hotel, we depart Ninh Binh and travel by motor coach for approximately four hours to the spectacular Ha Long Bay.

A highlight of the journey is an overnight cruise through Ha Long Bay, home to more than 3,000 dramatic limestone karst islands. Sailing aboard a traditional junk-style vessel, we’ll have time to relax, visit beautiful beaches, and explore hidden caves. While these islands are among Vietnam’s most visited destinations, no journey to this region is complete without capturing photographs of its iconic seascapes.

  • Begin the day by watching and photographing the magnificent sunrise from the boat in Ha Long Bay. Afterward, enjoy breakfast or brunch on board as we return to the mainland. Upon arrival at Ha Long Harbor, we meet our driver and travel back to Hanoi for a short flight onward to Hue.

  • Immerse yourself in culture and soft sunrise light as fishermen cast their colorful nets across the water.

After breakfast, we photograph the traditional process of making vibrant incense sticks before stepping back in time at the richly atmospheric tomb of Emperor Tu Duc. You’re free to shoot at your own pace or join the group as we work the scene together.

We then visit Thien Mu Pagoda and its monastery, followed by an afternoon and sunset photography session at Tam Giang Lagoon and the surrounding villages.

  • The day begins at the magnificent grounds of the Imperial City, featuring professional Ao Dai models. This session is approached as if you were on assignment for a travel or fashion magazine, making full use of this extraordinary setting.

After the shoot, we continue exploring the ancient city. Following lunch, we take a scenic coastal drive to Hoi An, spending the afternoon in the Old Town around the historic Japanese Covered Bridge.

  • The UNESCO-listed Old Town of Hoi An was once the busiest port on the South China Sea and remained under Champa rule for over fourteen centuries. Today’s photography begins at a local fishing village, where nets shimmering with silvery fish are hauled up from stilt platforms in the early morning light. On the return, we capture the vibrant colors and activity of the morning market.

In the afternoon, we head into Hoi An’s surrounding countryside to meet local residents and discover new perspectives, offering fresh opportunities to photograph the town’s charm from different angles.

  • This journey offers many beautiful sunrise sessions, but one we can’t miss is the vibrant beach market at dawn, where rows of boats line the shore and locals trade freshly caught fish.

After checking out of the hotel, we travel to Da Nang for a short flight to Nha Trang, one of Vietnam’s most popular coastal destinations. Upon arrival at Cam Ranh Airport, we continue north along the coast to Doc Let. After checking in at the hotel, we turn in early—tomorrow’s adventure begins well before sunrise.

  • At Luminous Vietnam, each photo tour aims to take photographers to at least one truly special, off-the-beaten-path location—and the Hon Khoi salt fields are a perfect example.

The salt ponds of Khanh Hoa are among the most photogenic in the world. Scenes of workers moving through gleaming salt flats and mirror-like pools create an otherworldly atmosphere, often compared to a tropical Arctic and, at their best, bordering on the surreal.

In the afternoon, we continue south to another remarkable setting, photographing vivid green fishing nets being woven in a nearby village and the expansive sand dunes of the fading Cham culture. We also visit a welcoming Cham family, known for their daughters’ rare blue eyes (if school schedules prevent this, alternative portrait opportunities will be arranged).

  • Experience early Cham villages, living culture in action, and environmental portraits of the Cham people set against sweeping sand dunes.

Afterward, we return to the hotel for breakfast and some leisure time before packing for a short flight to Saigon. If time allows, we’ll head out for street photography in the city center.

  • Good morning, Saigon—a vibrant city alive with energy, where motorbikes flow through the streets in endless swarms. After breakfast and coffee at the hotel, get ready for an exciting day ahead.

Among the city’s many markets, we head to Cho Lon in Chinatown, considered one of the most fascinating places for photography and local life. We then visit a Chinese temple, notable for its distinctive architectural style unlike those found elsewhere in Vietnam. After lunch, we continue our journey toward the Mekong Delta.

  • Nga Nam is best known for being smaller, more intimate, and far less visited by tourists. We set out very early—before sunrise—to photograph from a high vantage point as schoolchildren in uniform cross the river by boat. Below, boats trade and transport everything imaginable, from timber and vegetables to breakfast noodles and live poultry.

We then continue to the coast of Bac Lieu, where we capture scenes of fishermen at work and local women in conical hats repairing and stitching vibrant fishing nets. By late afternoon, we return to Can Tho for an overnight stay.

  • After checking out of the hotel, the morning is yours to enjoy in Can Tho—whether visiting the Phong Dien floating market, exploring nearby villages, or simply relaxing a little longer. In the afternoon, we travel back to Saigon, where a farewell dinner awaits at a local restaurant, marking the end of your journey and a warm goodbye to your travel companions.

  • You’ll have free time to relax or continue exploring the city at your own pace until we transfer you to the airport for your flight home, taking with you wonderful memories of the journey (late hotel check-out not included).
